While the Gates Foundation works globally, we recognize that improving people’s lives often happens at the local level, where individuals take action in their own communities.
Our Foundation Cares program makes it easier for local NGOs and community organizations to connect with foundation employees and partners for opportunities including volunteering, site visits, speaking engagements, and board member matching. If your organization
needs support in one of these areas, get in touch, and we will work to connect you with our employees or partners.
Working together in our global communities, we can solve our greatest challenges.
David Wertheimer recalls Bill Gates Sr.’s approach to philanthropy:
“those ‘numbers’ are our neighbors.”
David has worked in the non-profit, government, education, and philanthropic sectors for more than three decades. He joined the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2006, focused on issues in Washington State, including family homelessness, early learning,
education, and support for the local non-profit sector in order to improve capacity and outcomes. As Director of Community and Civic Engagement, he manages the foundation’s engagement in our home region.
